Flushing MI Photographer bio picture
  • Welcome to the Little Monsters Blog!

Hi! My name is Kari Coon and I am the owner and photographer behind Little Monsters Photography. This is the monster blog. A place to find all the latest sessions, news, specials, chit chat and anything else I want to talk about. I have a tendency to let my freak flag fly here so consider yourself warned.

My favorite family….

Okay, I am a little partial. She is my oldest friend…from birth she has been very special to me. She has the most beautiful family and the the cutest little monsters. I did a very quick session for her before her husband deployed again and there are tons of flaws, I am sure, but all I care about is the way they are looking at each other.

Take care of yourself, Nick, we are all thinking about you. (I promise not to give Robin any more scary movies to watch.)

Let’s go outdoors…..

Oh, yeah. Nicer weather. The OMs (original monsters) were outdoors today in SHORTS and riding bikes. The snow is gone, the icicles have melted, the holiday decorations are packed away…ummm, well, the icicles are melted. The birds are chirping and the puddles are ready to be jumped in. It is that time again. I am so excited to be shooting outdoors more. Everyone knows how much I like taking children outside for their portraits, I LOVE every minute of it. The fresh air, the great spots, the enchantment every child feels when they are out in the world. Ahhhhhh…….that was a huge sigh of happiness. So let’s go outside, okay?

And something spring-y……

Little Bunny Foo Foo……

I got an early visit from a cute little bunny….

No field mice were injured during this portrait session.

12 years ago today…..

I was begging my doctor not to send me home after four days of failed induction and to let me have a c-section. I should have known then that my firstborn was not going to do things the same as other children…..

Today is the birthday of my daughter, Hannah. She is so many things, funny, brilliant, beautiful, imaginative, outspoken, caring and most of all unique. She is so confident and sure of herself…that is a rarity at her age. She isn’t a follower, she is a trailblazer. She has always walked to her own beat. I so admire that about her. I am 20 years older, yes I was a young mom, and I don’t have a tenth of her poise. I know everyone thinks that their child is something special (and they are) but I feel like Hannah has made me someone who is much better than I ever expected to be. I am not going to go on and on because she would be embarrassed, so I will just say that she is spectacular and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best daughter anyone could ever have.

I love you, HB.

Meet Bryce…..

Bryce is 6. I hardly ever get older kids in and I love it when it happens. He is the older brother of one of my favorite little boys and I was excited to see his Tigers hat. I love me some Detroit Tigers. Older kids are a little easier because you can talk about politics and religion with them-it really gets them interested in the session. Just kidding. Although, we do often have some good discussion about school and sports…those are also favorites of mine.

Enjoy!
