Flushing MI Photographer bio picture
  • Welcome to the Little Monsters Blog!

Hi! My name is Kari Coon and I am the owner and photographer behind Little Monsters Photography. This is the monster blog. A place to find all the latest sessions, news, specials, chit chat and anything else I want to talk about. I have a tendency to let my freak flag fly here so consider yourself warned.

12 years ago today…..

I was begging my doctor not to send me home after four days of failed induction and to let me have a c-section. I should have known then that my firstborn was not going to do things the same as other children…..

Today is the birthday of my daughter, Hannah. She is so many things, funny, brilliant, beautiful, imaginative, outspoken, caring and most of all unique. She is so confident and sure of herself…that is a rarity at her age. She isn’t a follower, she is a trailblazer. She has always walked to her own beat. I so admire that about her. I am 20 years older, yes I was a young mom, and I don’t have a tenth of her poise. I know everyone thinks that their child is something special (and they are) but I feel like Hannah has made me someone who is much better than I ever expected to be. I am not going to go on and on because she would be embarrassed, so I will just say that she is spectacular and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best daughter anyone could ever have.

I love you, HB.

Meet Bryce…..

Bryce is 6. I hardly ever get older kids in and I love it when it happens. He is the older brother of one of my favorite little boys and I was excited to see his Tigers hat. I love me some Detroit Tigers. Older kids are a little easier because you can talk about politics and religion with them-it really gets them interested in the session. Just kidding. Although, we do often have some good discussion about school and sports…those are also favorites of mine.

Enjoy!

Meet Mr. Little Monsters…..

This is Court. Fourteen years ago, we met in a video store. I took his picture with a Nikon film camera because I thought he was super dreamy (that is for my daughter, Hannah, she loves it when I talk cutesy about her dad) and I developed it in a darkroom at Mott Community College. I already knew I loved him. It took him a little longer to be brainwashed than I had anticipated..but we got married in 1998. He has given me two gorgeous children, a million memories, support, laughter and love. He will do pretty much anything I ask him…not because he is a pushover but because he wants me to be happy and he is an unselfish person. (Note to self: read this when I am mad at him.)

Anyway, to the point of this post…I needed a model for an assignment for one of my photography classes (I went back to school last May-you can never know too much about photography) and he volunteered to sing “Ice Ice Baby” while I photographed him at varying shutter speeds. (Don’t ask.) This was one of the photographs…and I just loved it. He looks a bit scruffy (he is off work and letting himself go) but cute nonetheless. I wanted to share him because he is a big part of making Little Monsters awesome. He is my behind the scenes man…and he does a lot for me. From deliveries to supplying his part of the funny conversations on the splash page…he has done it.

The Green Monster……

Meet Riley…….

This little girl is amazingly beautiful….and she wasn’t a big fan of mine at first. I think she sensed that I wanted another baby girl and was afraid I was going to try and keep her. After a bit, she did start warming up and I am in love with the images I got of her and her wonderful parents.

Enjoy!

Londyn is back……..

and she is sitting up! It is no secret that I love watching my ‘little monsters’ grow…..I photographed Londyn before she was even born when I did her Mommy’s maternity portraits. I look forward to watching her grow up….maybe someday I will be taking her sweet sixteen portraits. Awwww…….
